Mark Doerfler v. City of Champaign

Firefighter Doerfler was injured during the course of his employment with the City of Champaign. Firefighter Doerfler hired Stephen P. Kelly to handle his line of duty disability claim. After a full pension hearing, Stephen P. Kelly was successful in obtaining Firefighter Doerfler his line of duty benefits. Subsequent to the line of duty pension hearing, Stephen P. Stacy Stear v. City of Peoria

Stacy Stear worked as a 911 dispatcher for the City of Peoria. The City of Peoria denied all of Stacy Stear’s claims. Stacy Stear’s injuries included bilateral carpal tunnel and bilateral elbow conditions. At the time of trial, Stephen P. Kelly was able to obtain a settlement in favor of Stacy Stear, in the amount of $85,000.00, plus payment of all medical bills to be paid by the City of Peoria.

Frankie King v. City of Peoria

Frankie King worked in the streets and maintenance department for the City of Peoria. Stephen P. Kelly tried Frankie King’s case twice and won the cases both times. The end result was a verdict in favor of Frankie King against the City of Peoria, in the amount of $111,089.51. Frankie King’s medical rights for these work injuries remain open for life.

Patrick Jordan v. City of Peoria

Officer Jordan was a police officer for the City of Peoria. Officer Jordan sustained multiple injuries in the course of his employment. Although the City of Peoria fought Officer Jordan’s cases, Stephen P. Kelly was successful in obtaining Officer Jordan an award of $124,833.11. In addition to this award, Officer Jordan’s medical rights remain open for the remainder of his life.

I was able to secure Pekin Firefighter Engineer Jami Lusher and his family Line of Duty Occupational benefits under the Pension Code.

Firefighter Robby Smith

Firefighter Robby Smith was an employee of the City of Champaign as a lieutenant. Firefighter Smith sustained an injury while working for the City of Champaign on February 16, 2018. Firefighter Smith was lifting a heavyset patient on a backboard when the patient’s weight shifted to Firefighter Smith’s side. Firefighter Smith sustained injuries to his low back. Firefighter Smith was diagnosed with a herniated disc at L5-S1 requiring a fusion of his spine. The injury also caused permanent damage to his bladder, for which an electronic interstem device was installed. Firefighter Smith filed for line of duty pension disability benefits.

After a lengthy trial and the evidence presented, Firefighter Smith was awarded his line of duty disability benefits by the pension board. Firefighter Smith received his line of duty benefits dating back to February 16, 2018.

Officer Matt West

Officer Matt West was an employee of the City of Peoria as a police officer. Officer West sustained multiple injuries while working for the City of Peoria on February 11, 2020. Officer West was involved in a motor vehicle accident while responding to a robbery. Officer West was hospitalized due to his injuries for 8 days. Officer West underwent an open repair with internal fixation to repair his right ankle trimalleolar fracture.  Officer West was diagnosed with a right ankle fracture, right wrist fracture, left wrist fracture, lacerations to his hands/fingers, facial lacerations, nasal fracture, concussion, low back sprain, cervical strain, and aggravation of bilateral hip arthritis.

Prior to trial, there was not a settlement offer. After a lengthy trial and the evidence presented, Officer West received a favorable award, including payment of medical expenses from the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission.

Firefighter Stephen Bresnahan

Firefighter Stephen Bresnahan was an employee of the City of Pekin as a fire captain. Firefighter Bresnahan sustained an injury while working for the City of Pekin on May 4, 2020. Firefighter Bresnahan sustained a work-related heart attack on that date. As a result of the work injuries, Firefighter Bresnahan filed for line of duty pension disability benefits. Firefighter Bresnahan was evaluated by 3 pension doctors and was found to have permanent restrictions and unable to return to work as a fire captain.

Subsequent to the pension trial, Firefighter Bresnahan was awarded his lien of duty disability benefits by the pension board. Firefighter Bresnahan received his line of duty benefits dating back to May 4, 2020.
